E-commerce seller GST

Selling on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho or other marketplaces comes with its own GST rules: registration in most cases, TCS taken from your payouts, and reports that must match your returns. We handle all three.

Who this is for

  • New and established sellers on online marketplaces
  • Sellers whose goods sit in marketplace warehouses in more than one state
  • Small sellers checking whether they qualify for an exemption
  • Sellers whose marketplace TCS does not match their own sales figures

What we do

  • Check whether you must register, or whether an exemption applies
  • Register you and add the GSTIN to your seller accounts
  • Reconcile marketplace payout and tax reports with your books every month
  • Claim the TCS the marketplace collected, through your GST returns
  • File GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B with marketplace sales reported correctly

The rules that apply

RuleWhat it means for you
RegistrationCompulsory for sales through a marketplace that collects TCS, whatever your turnover.
Exemption for servicesNot needed if your all-India turnover from services is ₹20 lakh or less.
Exemption for goods (from 1 October 2023)Not needed if your turnover is within the state limit, you make no inter-state sales, you sell through marketplaces in one state only, you have a PAN, and you file a declaration on the GST portal first.
TCS by the marketplace0.5% of your net taxable sales (0.25% CGST + 0.25% SGST) since 10 July 2024. The marketplace reports it in GSTR-8 by the 10th of the next month.

The GST Council recommended a new registration rule for e-commerce sellers without a physical presence in a state in October 2026. It applies only once notified. Sources: CGST Act, sections 24 and 52; Notifications 65/2017, 34/2023 and 15/2024-Central Tax.

Questions people ask

Do I need GST to sell on Amazon or Flipkart?

For most sellers, yes. Registration is compulsory for marketplace sales, unless you fall under the exemptions for small service providers or for small goods sellers who sell only within one state.

What is the TCS taken from my payout?

The marketplace collects 0.5% of your net taxable sales as TCS and deposits it with the government. It shows on the GST portal, and once you accept it you can use it towards your GST.

Why do my sales not match the marketplace report?

Returns, cancellations and timing differences are the usual reasons. We reconcile them every month so your GSTR-1 matches what the marketplace reports.
