How it is worked out
- You contribute 12% of basic salary plus DA. Your employer also contributes 12%, but up to ₹1,250 a month of that goes to the pension scheme (EPS), so it is left out here.
- Interest is worked out monthly on the running balance and added once a year, at the rate you enter.
- 8.25% is the EPF rate for 2025-26.
- Your salary is assumed to rise by the percentage you enter each year.
Questions people ask
Is EPF interest taxable?
Mostly not. Interest on your own contributions above a yearly limit is taxable.
When can I withdraw?
At retirement, and in some cases earlier, such as for a house, education or medical treatment, subject to EPFO rules.
